Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley: Roach Already Promoting the Fight
Mosley fight will earn Pacquiao record sum
myboxing.com It’s a sad day when a boxing trainer has to also take on a role as his fighters promoter. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what Freddie Roach had to do when Bob Arum failed miserably to find Manny Pacquiao an opponent fans would actually care to see him fight.Roach is one of the most beloved figured in the entire sport, but even he’s going to need the full five months to convince the majority of fans to tune in on May 7th to watch Pacquiao annihilate Shane Mosley. “It’s not an easy fight. He’s [Mosley] very dangerous in the early rounds. You saw what happened to Mayweather. Nobody looks good against Sergio Mora so you can’t really blame for that [performance]. We can’t look past him. Mosley is a tough guy. He has a good chin and he has good hand speed,” Roach said.
I wouldn’t expect Freddie Roach to say anything else. Of course he’s going to do his best to sell the fight and of course he’s going to hype up Mosley as much as possible because the last thing he wants is for Pacquiao to step in the ring unprepared. But unless he can brainwash the entire world into forgetting that Floyd Mayweather dominated Sugar Shane, nobody is ever going to have any interest in this fight.
Let’s be serious for a second. If Money May destroyed Mosley, what do you think the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world is going to do with him? Personally, I fear for Mosley’s life. Shane seems like a genuinely good guy and I’d hate to see him suffer permanent damage.
I have a feeling this is going to be one of those fights where Pacquiao seriously hurts Mosley in the early round and then backs off later in the fight because he doesn’t want to do any permanent brain damage to Sugar Shane.
At the end of the day I hope they have an ambulance with highly trained physicians close-by just in case.
